The sweet corn season – Iowa’s defining season – began today
as a pickup truck appeared in the Goodyear parking lot on the corner of Governor and
Church streets with a relatively small, early, but eagerly anticipated pile of picked-this-morning
corn stacked on the tailgate, $5 a dozen. So dinner tonight became the quintessential
Iowa summer meal – country style spare ribs, potato salad, and sweet corn:
